HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation: The Easton Owner’s Guide

A HeatShield chimney cap installation in Easton typically runs $340-$680 for most single-flue setups, including the cap, collar, sealant, and labor. We stock HeatShield-compatible caps and mounting hardware on our trucks, and most replacements are completed in one visit. If you’re seeing rust streaks on the masonry or hearing debris hit the firebox during wind, the cap has likely failed.

Easton’s freeze-thaw cycles are hard on chimney caps. Water gets under the collar, expands when it freezes, and slowly works the seal loose. We’ve replaced dozens of these on homes near the Delaware Canal and up toward College Hill, where the older brick chimneys settle just enough to stress the mounting flange. The cap itself might look fine from the ground while the seal underneath has been compromised for two seasons.

Which HeatShield Models This Applies To

HeatShield caps break down into two main series: the standard galvanized line and the stainless upgrade line. The galvanized units carry a 7-year warranty and fit flues from 8″ × 8″ up to 13″ × 13″. The stainless series, which we recommend for Easton installations, covers the same size range but uses a heavier 24-gauge lid and a 304-grade collar that won’t rust through in our wet winters.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha: HeatShield changed its mounting flange design around 2016. The pre-2016 caps use a three-tab twist-lock that seats into a stamped receiver ring. Post-2016 models switched to a four-bolt flange with a separate compression gasket. If you’re matching a replacement to an existing collar, you need to know which generation you have, or you’ll end up buying both pieces. The model stamp is on the underside of the lid, visible if you can safely access the roof edge with binoculars.

We carry both OEM HeatShield caps and compatible aftermarket equivalents from Gelco and Copperfield. The aftermarket units match the spec exactly and carry comparable warranties, but we always confirm fit against your actual flue measurement before we quote. Hearthstone Chimney Co. is an independent service provider, not affiliated with HeatShield.

Signs Your HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing

  • Rust stains running down the chimney face. The galvanized collar has corroded at the seam where it meets the flue tile. Once water reaches that seam, it travels the path of least resistance and leaves a telltale orange streak on your brick or siding. In Easton, we see this accelerate after winters with heavy road salt in the air.
  • Debris or leaves in the firebox. The cap mesh has separated from the frame or the lid has shifted off-center, creating a gap. Squirrels don’t need much encouragement, and the mature oaks in the historic districts near Centre Square drop enough acorns to clog a flue in one season.
  • Draft problems or smoke backup on mild days. The cap’s internal baffle has corroded or the lid has settled too low, restricting airflow. HeatShield caps rely on a specific clearance between lid and collar to create the Venturi draw that keeps smoke moving. When that gap shrinks, your fireplace becomes moody.
  • Water in the cleanout or damp odor from the fireplace. The sealant bed between collar and flue tile has cracked. This is the failure we catch most often during Level-2 inspections, homeowners never see it from the ground, and it’s usually been leaking for a year or more by the time we find it.
  • The cap is visibly tilted or missing after a windstorm. The mounting hardware has fatigued or the flue tile itself has chipped at the mounting point. Easton’s wind funnels down the Lehigh Valley harder than people expect, and a cap that’s been loosened by freeze-thaw cycles will walk right off in a March gust.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Component Price Range
HeatShield-compatible cap (galvanized) $180-$260
HeatShield-compatible cap (stainless) $280-$420
Collar/receiver ring (if needed) $45-$85
High-temp sealant and fasteners $35-$55
Labor (single-flue, standard access) $120-$180
Typical installed total $340-$680

What moves the number: roof pitch and access, whether the old collar can be reused, and if the flue tile needs repair before the new cap seats properly. We photograph everything and give you the verdict before we start. No surprises on the bill, the number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. Every installation carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s what you can safely check from inside: shine a flashlight up the flue and look for daylight where the cap should block it. If you see sky, the cap is gone or shifted. You can also check the firebox for debris or dampness. That’s the limit of what we’d advise.

Installing a chimney cap means working at height on a surface that may be steeper than it looks, with a part that has to seat square and seal watertight. The sealant needs to go on clean, dry, and at the right temperature to cure. A cap that looks straight from the ladder can be crooked enough to trap water. We’ve been called to redo DIY installations where the homeowner used the wrong sealant or stripped the flue tile trying to force a mismatched collar. It’s not worth the fall risk or the leak you’ll discover in November.

Call (610) 756-1504 and we’ll get you scheduled. Most caps we can swap in a single visit.
